Sérgio Rocha, Sereias guitar player, used a key-less and pedal-less piano in shambles, but which strings still existed to play his Variações Precárias nº 137 para Piano. The principle is simple, pull and stroke the piano’s strings as well as play them with forks, knives, a slim metal bar, use a glass bottle, add some effects pedals and pre-recorded sounds.
The result is quite surprising, pleasant, even. A one-off improvisation, the piano will be destroyed this week, ranging from louder, so to speak, more industrial sounds, to gentle quasi classical music. Quite an interesting approach and evening.
