Hi and Happy Sunday with Omni Shambles by Bar Italia.

All my maps, readings, and analyses – the midlife loops, the physiology, the rhythms – are tools. They are precise, elegant, even beautiful. But, tools are not the point. They are only meaningful if they lead back to what matters most: connection, presence, and the living pulse of life.
That is the first paragraph of my new post on The Listening Room HQ. You can read the rest here.
Good morning with Forever Elsewhere by Weird Nightmare. Have a nice weekend.

The Midlife Cycle: Written Map of Loops, Physiology, and Environment a new post on The Listening Room HQ is a practical, text-based map of the midlife cycle, showing how behavior, physiology, and environment interact.

My friend Manuel Carvalho and I put together 13 songs and instrumentals from thirty years ago. I had never heard some of Manuel’s choices before. Which pleases me, since I love to find out new music, even if it may not be exactly my genre.
Our choices aren’t necessarily the only type of music we were listening to in 1995, but they reflect our different tastes and contrasts.
For the most part, Manuel brought long, instrumental tracks, including a jazz cover of Nirvana’s Come As You Are by Charlie Hunter Trio. I brought songs, and loud guitars.
1995 was the biblical year of Britpop battle of the bands. Blur vs Oasis. I have always like both bands. Instead of the greatest hits from Blur’s The Great Escape and Oasis’ (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, I chose, respectively, Stereotypes, She’s Electric.
I did the same with Mcalmont & Butler’s The Sound Of… Instead of Yes or You Do, I picked Don’t Call It Soul
There’s also HIM, Kyuss, Nightmares On Wax, Faith no More, Emperors New Clothes, Ron Sexsmith and more.
The apparent “this things don’t make sense together”, is misleading. Together, our choices form a beautiful musical hour.

Sivert Høyem (of Madrugada) possesses an impressive voice with a very rare vocal range in deep tones, very well supported by the diaphragm and perfectly in tune.
He is a man of stories and, more or less, fortunate coincidences with which he captures the audience’s full attention, as they come scented with truth and humor.
Each song is a poetic ode of personal inspiration from something experienced, witnessed, or close. Perhaps that is where his truth and sense of genuine interpretation come from.
The atmosphere felt in each song makes us soar high, and we almost feel a breeze brushing against the skin. It is within the reach of few.

In this intimate solo concert, in which he appears very communicative and friendly, in the third song – Ride On Sisters, and explores his voice between powerful lows and intense, perfect falsettos. Here, Sivert earned the first of several ovations of the night.
Whenever he performs songs from his band – Madrugada – the audience reacts enthusiastically. A good example of this was Majesty, which was sung in full by many of those in the audience. Hollow, On An Island, and even Love vs The World were performed before the announced encore.

Sivert returned to bring us Prisoner, Honey Bee, When Your True Love is Gone, and Moon Landing to end on a high note.
I stayed until the room was practically empty, and there he was, mingling with some of those present. For those on the outside, it really looked like a conversation among friends. Cool!
