I return to ocean swimming late May and have kept it, including going to the ocean at night. At night, usually, given the conditions to walk along the shoreline, but, sometimes the water is good enough for a nightswim.

As R.E.M.’s song say that appears in the programme says “Nightswimming deserves a quiet night, deserves a quiet night”.

Preceding R.E.M. are Queens of The Stone Age with I Sat By The Ocean.
Underwater Songs are LuĆ­s Figueiredo & Manuel Rocha, a voice and piano duo that is releasing their second album Underwater Songs Vol. 2 in November.

There’s SĆ©timo LegiĆ£o with Sete Mares, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ The Ship Song, Charles Trenet with La mer.

The Who bring Sea And Sand from Quadrophenia, The Velvet Underground, arrive with Ocean,
The Shins walk with Sea Legs,
Van Morrison’s Into The Mystic brings an otherworldly dimension.

Amalia Rodrigues singing CancĢ§aĢƒo do Mar, and Chico Buarque with Mar e Lua bring deep emotion and longing.

Bernard Butler appears twice. The Sea (Edit), a b-side from Stay, a single from his debut album People Moved On, and Camber Sands from his third album Good Grief.

The closing is for the Beatles with the joyous Octopus’ Garden.

For some reason I had the programme title for a while. Probably, because of Sea and Cake, the band that opens and closes the show. Since I recently went ocean swim again and I like cake, it was a perfect match. Ideas and life catching and matching up.

For some reason I had the programme title for a while. Probably, because of Sea and Cake, the band that opens and closes the show. Since I recently went ocean swim again and I like cake, it was a perfect match. Ideas and life catching and matching up.

The songs and instrumentals aren’t necessarily about cake, sweets, or the ocean, although enough are. Like Savoy Truffle written by George Harrison for The Beatles’ White Album is literally about chocolates, and was written for Eric Clapton and his love  of said sweets. For The Of Sea & Cake edition I picked the live version Dhani Harrison singings his father’s song.

The Beach Boys’ Catch A Wave is another literal song, this time about the ocean and catching a wave to surf.

This edition has a self explanatory title. Some of my favourite songs, from different time periods, in one radio show. I have many more favourite songs, and could fill 24 hours, or more with them. But, here, there are 17, including my favourite song, Will Your Me Tomorrow, sang by The Shirelles.

Will You Love Me Tomorrow is also known as Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, title that, to me, gives a better view of the longing, fear, expressed by the lyrics. It was written by Carole King, and her by then husband and co-songwriter, Gerry Goffin and first recorded by The Shirelles in 1960.

Sometimes I Drink My Coffee by the Grave of William Blake is, if not thee song,is a song I would like to have written. It’s brilliant. I would love to have written A Lady of a Certain Age by The Devine Comedy, and CanĆ§Ć£o de Amigo by Um Zero Amarelo. And all the other choises, of course.

Baby, I Love You was originally performed by The Ronettes in 1963. It was written by Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich, and Phil Spector, produced by Spector. Phil Spector produced The Ramones’ End of the Century, released in 1980, in which the band cover of Baby, I Love You appears.

North Marine Drive, Ben Watt’s debut album from 1983, is one of my all time favourite records. I could have picked any of the album songs. I went with the title track.

Aftermath ranks top on my favourite Rolling Stones albums, and Under My Thumb is without a doubt my Stones favourite song.

On the department of favourite albums, there is also Queens of the Stone Age’s Songs For the Deaf. Mosquito Song is the hidden song on the cd version of the album. And eerie, gentle, yet macabre, acoustic song, sang by Josh Homme, with Dean Ween, of Ween, on acoustic guitar, that grows in crescendo and ends with a bang.

The A Family edition programme has songs by brother Renato and I sing together, through WhatsApp, including my niece, GaĆÆa, favourite song: CanĆ§Ć£o de Embalar by JosĆ© Afonso.

My brother and Iive over a thousand kilometers apart. We made good use of the fairies of technology. He is usually on speaker, strumming his Takamine or unplugged Les Paul model and singing, I’m not on speaker and or may not, be stunning my, unplugged, Strat model., and singing. Or humming the bass line.

The Beatles grace this post since they are a family affair. Our mum and her sisters, who were teenagers and young women in the 60s,lovec them. The first sing our parents dance to was a Beatles song. As a child I saw Yellow Submarine at least once a year on a movie theater,aming with every time it was shown on television. Help would be another much seen film.

There are two bands with two songs on the programe. The Beatles and Blur. We sing many Beatles and Blur songs. My niece loves Coffee & TV and its video. There is also the most Beatlesnesque song ever, not written by the Beatles, Oasis’ Don’t Look Back In Anger.
